A perfect day
"Cycling Ireland", the book I am using had a route over the mountains from Clough to Warrenpoint. Nice views, all the flowery write up. What are they smoking, climbing mountains when there is a shoreline route just as picturesque without killing myself. Hello, anyone at home! We have a judgement problem here. Like Ireland isn't difficult enough. My good judgement prevailed, the coast route for sure. Took the short ferry over to Strangeford, rode to Clough, from there to Downpatrick where I visited the church built on the site where Saint Patrick built his first church in 432AD. The church door was open, no one there. I walked in, charming place, simple, small, intimate and serenely quiet. The book of psalms was open so I read aloud the psalm in front of me. Go to my photos. The place was wonderfully peaceful; I could have stayed there all day. Moved along to Newcastle and ended up in Rostrevor where I found a beautiful campsite. The land it is on once belong to sister of the queen mother of Elizabeth. General Rostrenor set fire to the White House during the war of 1812, he is a big deal here. The town is small but a place I could see spending some time. The park I am set up in has some gorgeous old oaks. Found a nice pub after casing the town, totally unassuming front and a former dinner. The shop owner a few doors down turner me onto it.
